Glossary Entry: Status Effect

A status effect is any unusual condition that has been inflicted or bestowed on a character in a video game. Most will wear off after a given amount of time, or they can be removed by using an item or ability.

Additionally, helpful status effects are commonly known as buffs, while detrimental ones are called debuffs.
