Glossary Entry: Debuff

Definition

A debuff is an abnormal and detrimental condition suffered by a character in a video game. Common examples include conditions that reduces the character's health over time or prevent them from using abilities.

Although debuffs can be inflicted as an attack in their own right, they are also commonly a side effect of another attack.

Contrast buff.
