MMO is short for Massively Multiplayer Online Game. These games have huge constantly changing worlds to explore, and you join hundreds or thousands of other players in the game world when you play them.
Many MMOs are also MMORPGs, which is a specialized subgenre that mixes roleplaying elements with the rest of the game.
