Definition
Indie is short for "independent artist" or something they have made. For example, Indie music refers to music produced and sold by artists or groups acting alone instead of under a label.
Most indie groups publish online these days, and there are plenty of places where they can do this with little to no trouble.
The opposite of an Indie game would be a AAA game, as these are made by large corporate studios.
