Definition
The famous horror writer H. P. Lovecraft filled his world with a number of dangerous and nightmare inducing creatures. Cthulhu is one of these, and perhaps the most famous.
Cthulhu is typically depicted as a giant green octopus headed monster that rises out of the ocean, and has become something of a mascot for cosmic horror.
Interestingly enough, he is also one of the few Lovecraftian horrors who was actually defeated, making his popularity somewhat ironic.
