Game Overview

As you can probably guess from the title, Jigsaw Puzzles Infinite is yet another game about solving jigsaw puzzles. It's also a really nice one, with several useful features and a very simple design. It's also available for next to nothing - you only need to buy the paid version if you want a few extra features. In the meantime, you can play for free without the hassle of seeing in-game ads or having to purchase new puzzle packs.

To begin play, just select the image you'd like to use from one of the lists or your hard drive. Next, choose the options you want (eg, how many pieces, the style of play) and you're ready to go. It's really that simple.

During the game, you can right-click on the background to have the loose pieces sorted for you or simply placed aside in an orderly fashion. The rest of the controls from there are fairly standard - dragging with the left mouse button moves a piece, and right-clicking while dragging will rotate it. Pieces will snap together when they're placed close enough to each other, and you can position them in the empty frame once you know where they go.

If you'd like a little more flexibility with your puzzles, you can upgrade to the paid version. This unlocks a few extra features like the ability to create puzzles with an insane number of pieces or special piece shapes, but none of these paid features are necessary to enjoy this title.

That said, there is one potential problem with this otherwise excellent game: most of the images in the base package were made using an AI image creation tool. There's a lot of controversy attached to AI generated artwork, so I can understand why this might be a problem. Of course, none of the images in the bonus image packs were made with AI, but that may not be enough to redeem the project for some.

Personally, I'm not that concerned about using AI for a puzzle game like this, and if you're comfortable with it too, then I'd definitely suggest giving this game a try. It's easily one of the best jigsaw puzzle games I've ever played.

Points of Interest

Hundreds of free puzzles

The base package alone offers 99 images for you to turn into jigsaw puzzles, and a great deal more have been released as free add-ons. With so many puzzles available, you might worry about losing your place, but this game has you covered: it adds a banner across the thumbnails of images you've completed at least once.

Two game modes

By default, you'll be working with the jigsaw puzzles like you'd expect - all of the pieces are scrambled and dumped on the table, then you assemble the picture at your own pace. But there's also a second mode available, called "Zen". In this alternate mode, you're given one piece at a time, and must connect it to the ones already in place. It's a lot like the Jigsaw Jam feature in Microsoft Jigsaw, with the exception that there's no time restriction or scoring.

Custom puzzles are a snap

Any picture on your computer can be used to make a new puzzle. To make things even easier, once you've made a custom puzzle, that picture will be added to the custom puzzle menu, so there's no need to find the file again.

Paid version is completely optional

The only real benefit of upgrading to the paid version is the ability to create puzzles with a very large number of pieces or with unique piece styles. If you don't care about either option, the free version has everything you'd want in a jigsaw game and more!

Steam community features

There are 23 achievements available, and most can still be earned if you're just playing the free version. Many of them have to do with exploring the game's many options, so you'll eventually earn them all if you keep trying things out.

Concerns and Issues

AI generated artwork

As mentioned above, the first set of pictures was created using AI art tools. Since generative AI is a controversial topic, it's important for people to know about this prior to playing it. For those who are unfamiliar with the topic, there's a real controversy over how AI tools are made, work, and are used. In this case, it's not the images themselves that are offensive or worthy of any concern - it's the tool that was used to make them.
