A typing tutor is an educational program designed to teach beginners how to efficiently use a keyboard. In other words, they are programs that teach you how to type (ie, they are literally "typing tutors").
Many of these programs turn their lessons into a sort of practical game, as a high score can encourage students to try and improve their typing skills.
