Glossary Entry: Transhumanism
Quick Definition
Transhumanism is a concept that appears primarily in science fiction. It's the idea that mankind not only could improve itself through the use of artificial enhancements, but should do so. In other words, it's a philosophy that everyone is better off if we all became cyborgs.
Stories that base themselves on transhumanism usually focus on the ethics, morality, possible side effects of merging man and machine, and the exact nature of what it means to be human. Naturally, this can get dark and possibly even scary rather quickly.
The Borg from Star Trek and the Cybermen from Dr. Who are extreme takes on this philosophy, as most transhumaist groups aren't known for forcibly recruiting new members.
