Glossary Entry: Third Person Shooter
Quick Definition
These are 3D games where the player spends most of their time running around shooting things, while viewing the world from a third person perspective. Often, the "camera" is positioned behind and to the side of the player's character, giving the impression that there is an unseen cameraman following the player around.
In some cases, it's possible to switch between third person and first person viewpoint, essentially allowing a game to be a first person shooter. The only difference between these two genres is the location of the camera, after all.
Examples third person shooters are Dead Space and its sequel, as neither game allows the player to switch into a first person perspective.
