Glossary Entry: Moral Guardian
Quick Definition
A "moral guardian" is someone who is attempting to fight against a perceived threat to society. In and of itself, this is not a bad thing, though it can be a little silly. For example, moral guardians are the sort of people who want to keep things like swearing and gore out of children's entertainment. In fact, you could say that I'm being a moral guardian by running this very website!
Unfortunately, many moral guardians are overzealous and border on insane. This results in them raising alarm about things they don't understand (or that may not even exist), and given enough of a platform, they may kick off a moral panic, which is easily capable of doing more damage to society than whatever cause they were trying to fight.
