Glossary Entry: Mary Sue
Quick Definition
A Mary Sue (or Gary Stu if the character is male) is a type of character seen in fictional works. Essentially, these characters are too "perfect" or "flawless", allowing them to easily overcome any challenge that they come across with minimal effort. This often results in them becoming boring or annoying, as they are just too good at whatever they do to be believable.
Many, if not most, characters of this type are the result of an inexperienced writer indulging in a little too much wish fulfillment when working on their story. This isn't really surprising, as the term itself came from a Star Trek fan fiction that featured an implausibly flawless character named, as you might guess, Mary Sue.
That said, playing as a Mary Sue in a video game can be a LOT of fun if you don't try and take things seriously.
