Glossary Entry: Mana
Quick Definition
Mana is the magical equivalent to a character's hit points. Or to put it another way, this is the term used to measure the magical power available to a character in a fantasy game. Games set in more modern or realistic settings use the same mechanic, but will likely call it "skill points" or something more appropriate.
Characters in games typically have special abilities that provide special effects (such as buffs or debuffs) or just do more damage to enemies than normal. Using these abilities drains some of the character's mana, and eventually they'll be unable to use these powers until their mana reserves are restored. Mana typically regenerates slowly over time, but various items can restore it faster. Sleeping is also a common remedy.
