Definition
A health bar or life meter is exactly what it sounds like: it's a bar or graph that shows how many hit points a character currently has.
It's not very common for games to make an enemy's life meter visible - the typical exception to this are bosses, so the sudden appearance of an enemy's life meter means that a boss battle is about to begin!
