Glossary Entry: Lich

Quick Definition

A lich is a somewhat common type of powerful undead monster found in fantasy settings.

Specifically, they are magic users who used dark magic (ie, necromancy) to resurrect themselves, often in a bid for eternal life. However, since this form of magic only works on the dead, they are left as an animate corpse, much like a zombie.

Unlike other undead monsters, liches do retain their mind, memories, and intelligence, making them a very dangerous foe.

Unsurprisingly, stories almost always cast this type of character as either the main villain or one of the villain's higher ranking subordinates.
