Glossary Entry: Cutscene

Quick Definition

These are brief scenes that tell the game's story or brief the player on what their next objective is. In the vast majority of cases, the player does not actually play the game when these are shown, and so they might not be able to pause or replay the scene afterwards.

Many games stop the action and show their cutscenes as animations or movie clips, so if the player has stopped pressing anything and the screen looks like it's showing a video, they are probably viewing a cutscene.

Cutscenes are usually important, and since the player has little to no control over the game while they are displayed, it would be best to wait for the cutscene to end before attempting to talk to them or otherwise interrupt them.
