Glossary Entry: Cursor

Definition

A "cursor" is a graphic used to indicate to the user where new input will be placed. For example, the blinking line or rectangle shown in a text field is one type of cursor.

The mouse pointer is also known as a cursor - it shows what element on screen is going to be affected by your next click. Often, the mouse pointer's appearance will change to reflect what will happen if you click there.
