Glossary Entry: Debuff

Quick Definition

A debuff is an abnormal and detrimental condition suffered by a character in a video game. Common examples include poisoning (which reduces the character's health over time) or paralysis (which prevents the character from moving, leaving them an open target for anyone to attack).

Debuffs are a form of lasting attack and may be inflicted as a side effect of another attack or as an attack in their own right.

Contrast buff.
