Glossary Entry: Console Generation

Quick Definition

Video game consoles are often grouped into "generations", based on when they were available and what systems they were competing against. Each generation is more capable and powerful than the one before it, but this doesn't necessarily mean that they are less admired or famous than their newer counterparts.

As technology is constantly improving, a new console generation is "born" roughly every five years.
